Recollections

...From an early age through my teens, I did not want to be Chinese. Only recently have I acknowledged a deep hole in my identity, because I know so little about my cultural heritage and family history. I've since continually dredged up the past in my photographic work, seeking to understand my connections to my family, and to document my family's place in history.

...I love photographing in my home - it's the most relaxing kind of photography I do. I can take my time, and photograph in warmth and silence. I love the window light that falls on the objects I photograph. The way the light softly illuminates is reminiscent of the past - how it creeps into dark corners of your present life and delicately defines it.
