...The biggest mistake we make as women in our present culture is to not take the time to think and question. Why am I painting my face? Why am I shaving my legs? Why have I spent the last half hour of my life on the stairmaster, watching the calories countdown?

...I can still remember life as a teenage girl - totally consumed in popular culture, trying to find myself in fashion and a heavily painted face. At the end of five stressful years of high school I was still lost.

...It saddens me that in 150 years of advertising culture, try-as-they-might, designers have not been able to elevate pop culture - the popular educator of image, desire, and moral values - to rise above dehumanizing projections of women, presenting unrealistic objects for men's desire and women's self-deflation. Sex sells? Women sell? Tried and true, they say? Try harder.
